Best things to do in Houston, Texas | Houston Museum of Natural Science
Our trip the the Houston Museum of Natural Science
Let me start by saying that we love the Houston Museum of Natural Science!
We live in the Houston area, and it is our personal favorite museum to visit. We always get annual passes, and visit pretty often.
On this trip, we stopped by during the holiday season. The main thing that is different during the holidays is that they set up an impressive model train exhibit that the kids really enjoy! There is a tunnel that the kids (or adults if you feel up to it) can climb through and see the center of one of the train models and some smaller trains underneath.
In the same room, there is also a large projector screen that shows an image of you on the screen with astronauts, dinosaurs and other animals. Our kids always have a blast with this and we spent about 20 minutes there letting them run around and play. After leaving the model train area we headed over the the Morian Hall of Paleontology. There are so many fossils in this area to see! They are set up in a way that depict a story of how they may have behaved when they were alive. There are also some stunning murals on the walls, depicting the scenes.
Some of our favorite fossils to look at are the Giganto-dactyl (Quetzalcoatlus) which are impressively huge pterosaurs that used to fly over Texas, Slothzilla (Eremotherium) a giant ground sloth, and of course the T. rex!
In addition to viewing the many fossils in this hall, there is also a beautiful section of petrified wood, and a section showcasing human evolution. Overall, the Morian Hall of Paleontology, is a very impressive showcase of prehistoric times!
There are many other exciting exhibits at the Museum of Natural Science that we did not capture on this trip! Since we do have a museum membership, we usually pop in to just a few exhibits each time we visit.
We definitely recommend visiting this museum if you’re in the Houston area. In our opinion it’s a must do! Be sure to check out our YouTube video on the trip above!
